Day 1 : Arrival at KATHMANDU, transfer to HAATIBAN (1852 mts) You are met at the airport and then transferred to Haatiban Resort, an hours drive through the lovely countryside. Located south-west and around 400 meters above the valley, the views from here and the peaceful environment is most welcoming after a long flight. Overnight.
Day 2 : Day hike to CHAMPADEVI (2278 mts/ 3/4 hrs) An early morning hike up the Champa Devi hill is recommended as a good preparation for your onward trek. Once at the top, the views of the mountains stretching from Manaslu in the west all the way towards the eastern Himalaya is a treat. Back at the hotel you can either take the afternoon off or do some sightseeing of the local villages and small towns of Pharping and Dakshinkali .
Day 3 : Fly to LUKLA (9000’/2743m), Trek to MONJO (5-6 hrs) The exciting flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and the landing at its small mountain airstrip is something you will remember for years to come. After landing on the newly resurfaced airstrip, a warm welcome with refreshing tea, served with cookies at our Lukla lodge before commencing the trek. Pass through several villages before stopping for lunch at a beautiful spot alongside the Thada Kosi river, below the base of the Kusum Kangru Himal. The second half of the trek to Monjo should take no more than 3 hours. The next big village on the way is Phakding (8700'/2652m) but the trail passes many smaller settlements on its way. The entire walk from Lukla to Monjo is an easy hike over gently undulating hills. Memories of this first day will recall the sound of porter-entrancing transistor radios, the soft rumble of several different languages, the calls of strange birds, sights of porters resting outside tea houses, loads laid aside, travel-worn trekkers making their way back to Lukla, the flutter of prayer flags, the brightly painted tea houses and of course the dramatic scenery. Warm welcome tea served with cookies and cakes await you at the Monjo lodge.
Day 4 : Trek to Namche Bazar (3400 mts 3/4 hrs) This will be one of the harder days physically on your trek so take it slowly. The path itself is full of interesting sights. Not least of these will be your first view of Everest as you get higher up the trail. From the lodge it is 15 minutes to the Everest National Park boundary and already the scenery is vastly impressive, with deep gorges, bare vertical rock faces, pine forests on some steep slopes and wispy waterfalls. This is a tremendously impressive suspension bridge, spanning a deep chasm. The path then zig-zags up through the forest where trees pack themselves in between giant boulders and cliffs. If you are lucky, you may well see small herds of thar, a small deer-like animal. Eventually you pull into Namche Bazaar, its Sherpa houses built one above the other on the steep sides of a sloping mountain bowl. The narrow streets at its centre are a mixture of cyber cafés souvenir shops and places where you can rent/buy any piece of equipment under the sun. Namche is a bustling place and the hub of everything that goes on in the Everest region. All expeditions pass through here on their way to the peaks, and there is a huge cross section of nationalities staying in lodges or camping. In the afternoon trek to the view point for a panoramic view of the mountains ranging from Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and more, Overnight Sherpaland Hotel.
Day 5 : Return Trek to MONJO (6hrs) In the morning, walk up to the view point for exceptional views of the panaromic mountains, back for lunch and then make our way back crossing the Edmund Hillary Bridge, we shall soon be in the familiar surroundings of the lodge at Monjo. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
Day 6 : TREK VIA GUMILA MONASTERY TO LUKLA (9,000ft/2,743m) 5hrs. Today's return trek to Lukla will bring us through the village of Phakding and a chance to visit the monastery of Gumila high above the village. It takes about 30-45 minutes to reach this monastery accessible by a path leading off the main trail. It is home to 12-15 monks of the Gelugpa sect and a centre of Buddhist learning. Continue back to the main trail and on to Lukla. Overnight at Lukla Lodge.
