Everest Abridged 10 Nights / 11 Days
Day 1 : Arrival at KATHMANDU, transfer to HAATIBAN (1852 mts) You are met at the airport and then transferred to Haatiban Resort, an hours drive through the lovely countryside. Located south-west and around 400 meters above the valley, the views from here and the peaceful environment is most welcoming after a long flight. Overnight.
Day 2 : Day hike to CHAMPADEVI (2278 mts/ 3/4 hrs) An early morning hike up the Champa Devi hill is recommended as a good preparation for your onward trek. Once at the top, the views of the mountains stretching from Manaslu in the west all the way towards the eastern Himalaya is a treat. Back at the hotel you can either take the afternoon off or do some sightseeing of the local villages and small towns of Pharping and Dakshinkali .
Day 3 : Fly to LUKLA (9000’/2743m), Trek to MONJO (5-6 hrs) The exciting flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and the landing at its small mountain airstrip is something you will remember for years to come. After landing on the newly resurfaced airstrip, a warm welcome with refreshing tea, served with cookies at our Lukla lodge before commencing the trek. Pass through several villages before stopping for lunch at a beautiful spot alongside the Thada Kosi river, below the base of the Kusum Kangru Himal. The second half of the trek to Monjo should take no more than 3 hours. The next big village on the way is Phakding (8700'/2652m) but the trail passes many smaller settlements on its way. The entire walk from Lukla to Monjo is an easy hike over gently undulating hills. Memories of this first day will recall the sound of porter-entrancing transistor radios, the soft rumble of several different languages, the calls of strange birds, sights of porters resting outside tea houses, loads laid aside, travel-worn trekkers making their way back to Lukla, the flutter of prayer flags, the brightly painted tea houses and of course the dramatic scenery. Warm welcome tea served with cookies and cakes await you at the Monjo lodge.
Day 4 : Excursion to THACHOK DANDA (3,000 mts 5/6 hrs) Today's proposed hike to Thakchok Danda is to assist acclimatization. Your Sherpa Sirdar will take you up the hill to Thakchok's summit, which lies slightly above 9842'/3000m. From this vantage point, the views of Kongde Ri, Thamserku and Numbur Himal are quite spectacular. This excursion will take about 6 hours and may enjoy a picnic lunch enroute. Return to Monjo Lodge for the night.
Day 5 : Trek to, TASHINGA (11,023 ft / 3,450 m) 5 /6hrs. Five minutes beyond the lodge, one enters the Everest National Park, where entry formalities will have to be completed. Today will be one of the tougher days of the trip, but we take it slowly, enjoying the scenery as you climb slowly up to Namche Bazar . Along the way there are two suspension bridges to cross as you zig zag along and across the Dudh Kosi river before reaching the base of the Namche hill. The trail is well marked, comfortably broad. Walking in the cooler part of the morning, it is easier to breathe and gradually get used to the increasing altitude. After an easy-paced three hour walk, arrive at Namche Bazar (3450) the heart of the Khumbu . A well deserved break is planned over lunch and time enough to explore this interesting small town. Above Namche, the trail to Tashinga follows the classical approach to Everest. Keep to the almost level winding trail for about 2 1/2 hours before taking a slight detour off the main trail and arrive at the lodge in the next 15 minutes.
Day 6 : Day excursion to THYANGBOCHE (3,873 m/12,670 ft/ 5/6 hrs) Looking across the valley from the lodge, one can see the path sloping diagonally upwards to the famous monastery of Thyangboche. Begin the day's trek by descending to the small hamlet of Phunki Tenga lying beside the Dudh Kosi. Cross the suspension bridge before beginning a steep ascent for about an hour. This part of the trail passes through fairly heavy forest of rhododendron and pine so it is well shaded and cool. Once out of the forest, the trail becomes gentler and more gradual for another 1 1/2 hours, all the way to the monastery. The setting of Thyangboche is magical, positioned as it against a backdrop of some of the Himalayas most brilliant peaks. The monastery was accidentally burned down only a few years ago and re-built largely through the efforts of the Sir Edmund Hillary Trust. After a leisurely lunch and a tour of the monastery and its surroundings, retrace to Tashinga for the night.
Day 7 : Return Trek to MONJO (6hrs) From Tashinga, return to the lovely lodge at Monjo, this time taking the lower trail back to Namche. There will be time enough for a short stop in Namche for some last minute shopping before making the final descent to Monjo. Crossing the Edmund Hillary Bridge, we shall soon be in the familiar surroundings of the lodge at Monjo. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
Day 8 : TREK VIA GUMILA MONASTERY TO LUKLA (9,000ft/2,743m) 5hrs. Today's return trek to Lukla will bring us through the village of Phakding and a chance to visit the monastery of Gumila high above the village. It takes about 30-45 minutes to reach this monastery accessible by a path leading off the main trail. It is home to 12-15 monks of the Gelugpa sect and a centre of Buddhist learning. Continue back to the main trail and on to Lukla. Overnight at Lukla Lodge.
Day 9 : FLY TO KATHMANDU. Flights to Kathmandu are generally early morning, so after an early breakfast, we make our way over to the airstrip and take a fixed wing flight back. On arrival, a Representative will meet and transfer you to your hotel in the city.
Day 10 : Sight-Seeing Kathmandu. Free day in Kathmandu with option of sightseeing. Farewell dinner in the evening.
Day 11 : International departure. Kathmandu. International departure.
